Immediately following the Adrenaline Showcase, 32 of the most elite teams in the West will flock to Sonoma, CA for the premier team recruitment tournament in the country. Travel is set for coaches from all over the country, including DI big dogs such as Maryland, UNC, Notre Dame, and Denver University who will benefit from attending the primetime Showcase and seamlessly expanding their player search for the Elite Shootout. DU Assistant Coach Dylan Sheridan will serve as the tournament Director for the Elite Shootout, with Kevin Corrigan and Gerry Byrne from Notre Dame controlling the clinics and recruiting seminars as Camp Director and Clinic Director, respectively.  A growing list of attending recruiters can be found on the Adrenaline website. With support from its sponsors, including STX, Gatorade, Knockaround, SKLZ, Athlete’s Performance and Adrenaline, the Elite Shootout successfully goes against the grain of the typical summer recruiting tournament, as the small number of teams allows for optimal player visibility that ultimately benefits both recruiters and the players who thrive on maximum exposure.

Attending teams will check into the tournament mid day Friday and begin playing games shortly after. Each team will play 7-9 games over the course of three days, with an All-Star game taking place early afternoon on Saturday. The Adrenaline Evaluation Team (AET), the group responsible for inviting players to Adrenaline Primetime Individual Recruiting events such as Black Card Showcase, Boys Showcase, and High Rollers, will assist college recruiters in selecting players for the All-Star game. The Adrenaline Marketing team will orchestrate what has become a half-time staple for the Sonoma Shootout Series, the famed Slam Dunk Contest. The top three contenders who showcased their skills in the Adrenaline Feel-it Factory previously during the tournament will be selected to compete for the Slam Dunk title. Tournament games will continue after the All-Star game, which are pertinent to determining the Sunday playoff schedule. Throughout the day, NCAA coaches will be holding positional clinics, as well as recruiting seminars and film analysis sessions on Friday and Saturday night. Fine a full schedule of the weekend here.

“The Shootout is the original western recruiting event and has maintained a vital role in the landscape of our player’s recruitment success.  With the increased player talent level within the top group of the successful club programs, the overall skill level of the event keeps taking leaps and bounds,” says Alex Cade, President of Adrenaline Lacrosse.  “This tight group of teams, coaches, and Adrenaline members that attend the event every year really gives it a great family feel.  I’m fired up to get back up to Sonoma.”

This year’s Elite Shootout will once again feature some of the most talented and athletic club teams in the western United States. Find a full list of attending teams here. Below is a look at some of this summer’s top 5 picks to win the 2013 Shootout:

ADVNC: Coming off an Adrenaline Challenge Championship in January, ADVNC will be a front-runner in taking home this year’s title. Paced by the dynamic midfield duo of Mikey Schlosser (Michigan) and Joe Reid (Denver), ADVNC will look to make plays in transition as well as rely on key players such as attackman Joe Lang (Harvard) and Frankie Hatler, Defenseman Liam Bourke (Michigan) who has emerged as one of the best in the west, and Josh Wellman (Penn State) at the face-off X.

RC: The perennial power of San Diego will be looking to build off its recent championship at the LXM San Diego event. Connor McCroskey (Harvard), Pierre Byrne (Notre Dame), and Andrew Tien will lead the attack, with Michael Kay (Drexel), Spencer Beyer (Wagner) and Owen Weselak at the faceoff. A defense lead by goalie Bryce Cady (Bryant) will be young and tested early.

Laxdawgs: The gritty, fundamentally solid, and efficient group from southern San Diego will once again be a contender. Long poles Trent and Connor Schulte are tremendous on defense, with the offensive duo Jake Stott and Charlie Mayers proving a prominent force on the opposite end of the field.

Utah Zip It: The merger of the summer will be a threat this Shootout with Quinn Eissler and Matt Graney leading the offense, while Dan Lier and Carter Manix anchor a strong defense. Team speed and quickness across the board will put them in the running to winning it all.

AZ Force: This team will come in firing with a talented squad, with Anthony Abadessa at attack, and Ryan Coukoulis, Garret Howell, and Mitch Fabroni pitching in. Cade Van Rapphorst and Alex Larson will hold down the defense.

Others teams on the on the cusp:

Utah Blackhawks

Colorado Wild

Denver Elite

Team Minnesota

Saskatoon Scorpions

Booth Indians

Peter Baum trains with AdrenaFIT

I recently had the opportunity to get newly signed LXM Pro, Peter Baum, out on the field for an AdrenaFit workout.  AdrenaFit is one of the newest offerings in the Adrenaline Training Cycle.  This program is a revolutionary program combining strength training, speed & agility, and lacrosse skills into one complete lacrosse training program for the most committed athletes.  We took Peter through one of our task-orientated workouts and let him see what our high school players do during a normal AdrenaFit workout.

It is always fun when you get to work with a high-level professional athlete and see how hard you can push them.  It is even better when a 1st team Division 1 All-American, Lt. Ray J. Enners Award (attackman of the year), and Tewaaraton Award Winner (national player of the year).   Peter crushed it of course, but was really impressed with what our athletes are able to do and could see the immense benefit from the training.  He commented that he wished he had something like this in high school and college for that matter.  There is no other program that will get you in better game-shape than AdrenaFit!

The workout is named “Cader’s Crusher” after our very own company leader, Alex Cade.  With any workout it is important that you begin with a proper warm up such as our AdrenaFit Movement Prep.  In past blogs I have spoken about the importance of a proper warm up and cool down and its effect on performance and injury prevention.  This workout is not only a great total body workout but should also challenge your endurance and cardio.  Remember, in the sport of lacrosse having the legs to play are even more important in the 4th quarter.  This workout will have game ready for the summer club season!

The workout will begin with the athlete doing each exercise in the circuit for 10 reps followed by a “gasser.”  A “gasser” is a sprint from sideline to sideline, there & back two times.  This should be done in less than 44 seconds.  Baum did this in 32 seconds!  Repeat this circuit 5 times and then record your score.  Try to best your score each workout.

“Cader’s Crusher”

- 10 X KB Swing
- 10 X KB Cleans
- 10 X KB Press
- 10 X Front Squats
- 10 X KB Bent Over Rows
- 1 X Gasser

*Do not sacrifice form or safety for speed.  Perform each of the exercises in a safe and controlled manner.  Your time should improve by shortening your recovery time between exercise, which will improve as your strength and endurance improve.

**The workout was designed to be done outside using kettlebells.  If you do not have access to these types of weights you can make them by filling 1-gallon milk cartons with sand.  You can adjust the weight by adding or taking sand out of the gallon.  If you are inside the gym you can supplement with dumbbells and use the treadmill for sprints.

2013 Adrenaline Showcase: Day 1 Recap

Sonoma, CA- The fields at Rohnert Park flooded with 170 of the best players in the West hailing from ten states and two Canadian provinces. With a phenomenal turnout of NCAA and MCLA coaches and only three active fields, primetime players saw quality minutes in front of recruiters. Despite the natural stress of performing on “stage” in front of many desired next-level spectators, players all felt a similar, laidback feel during today’s event. “Everyone’s calm and the event is more organized than most,” said Adrenaline Showcase first timer Garrett Michaeli (2015, Corner Canyon High School, Utah).  “I have also played with most of these guys throughout the years so its cool playing with them in this environment.” Like most players looking to play at the next level, Garrett has contacted various college coaches letting them know what events he would be attending this summer. “Its nice to see a lot of them are here.”

Upon check-in players received gear packs stocked with custom uniforms, a custom tank top, Knockaround sunglasses, and STX shafts. Players took the field in style for the first round of games, followed by advanced college team practices with a variety of NCAA coaches. Head Coach Jim Berkman of Salisbury University participated in this afternoon’s coaching clinics and was very impressed with the overall level of play. “I see a couple Seagulls," says Berkman. A comment like that from a D3 powerhouse is promising for western lacrosse, and music to attending players' ears.

2013 Showcase Pallet Jungle

As a California native and assistant coach of University of Denver, Dylan Sheridan is a strong advocate for recruiting in the West: “California is evolving as one of the best places to recruit in the West, it’s taken a huge step forward. Its great to get out here in an emerging hotbed, recruit in the state I’m from, and hopefully keep some players in the West.” Primetime player Willy Reynolds (2014) can also attest to the development of western lacrosse. Born in the Bay area but attends boarding school at The Hill School in Pennsylvania, Reynolds has equally competed on both sides of the country. “The Showcases here are great because they’re more concentrated with people who really want to play,” said Reynolds, referring to today’s event. “And that talent is equivalent to east coast talent where the players are more experienced overall.”

Parents of the players are also pleased with the intimate atmosphere of the Adrenaline Showcase. Brian McKeon, father of Jack McKeon (junior at La Costa Canyon- San Diego, CA), is keen on the structure of the Showcase. “I love that the age groups of the players are mixed,” said Brian, who likes that size due to age was not a factor in creating the teams. “You’re here to play against the best players. You see it in high school, and you’ll see it in college. It’s like that saying, ‘catch up or blow up’”. In the evening recruiter seminar, Jim Berkman touched on a similar topic, stating that a college roster is 40-50 players, and regardless of the size of a recruiting class or age, the first thing you have to do in college is outwork your teammates. Recruiters also benefit from teams of mixed age groups so they can watch multiples grades at a time.

Jim Berkman at the Recruiter Seminar:

Players also enjoyed some friendly competition between games and clinics in the Adrenaline Feel-it Factory, which consisted of a fastest shot contest, SKLZ Shooting accuracy contest, and a Slam Dunk contest. Sammy Edwards of the LA Lazers Elite Pink team notched a high of 100 mph in the shot contest, a notable speed for attending recruiters.

STX, Gatorade, Knockaround, SKLZ, Athlete’s Performance, and Adrenaline Apparel are the official sponsors of the Adrenaline Showcase. STX is on site displaying their latest equipment, as well as Gatorade that provides players with the fuel needed to perform at maximum level.

Sonoma, CA: Elite Shootout teams warmed up for their first set of games with positional clinics lead by various NCAA and MCLA coaches. Five of the seven undefeated teams from the previous day notched their third win of the tournament this morning, with RC Starz Elite Carolina and Denver Elite 2014 falling short to fellow undefeated squads.

At 1:00 PM the entire tournament and all those in attendance shifted their attention to the Elite Shootout All-Star game, which was accompanied by a halftime dunk contest. A meeting of the minds with the Adrenaline Evaluation Team (AET) and college recruiters resulted in two All Star rosters stacked with 49 of the best players in the tournament. With strong offensive performances by players such as Carlo Castaneda, Reed Zabel, and Mitchell Frabroni, Team Knockaround secured a 9-6 win over Team Gatorade. Team Gatorade started out with a two-goal lead, only to have goalie Caelahn Bullen instigate a change in pace for the opposing team. Despite Scott McNamara’s late second half goal in attempt to answer back three consecutive Team Knockaround points, Tristan Aimonetti stepped up big to block a majority of shots that came his way. It also helped that senior Justin Proctor from Utah Zip it dominated on the draw for Team Knockaround. Notable players on Team Gatorade included Matt Graney on attack, and Connor Veit and Michael Marinelli on defense. “It’s cool to know college recruiters saw me as one of the top guys here,” says Connor Schulte, 2015 LaxDawgs Elite Brown and All Star player. “It gave me confidence, something I needed knowing they were all sitting there watching.”

Tournament games resumed in the afternoon with each team playing a total of three games on the day for a five-game team record that helped determine the rankings for each division. The top eight teams qualified for the playoffs, while the rest of the teams will play in two consolation matches. The top three teams in the Adrln Elite division will enter the playoffs with perfect records. Colin Ridenour, a former LaxDawg but now a 2014 ADVNC Elite 1 player, knows very well how RC plays from his time San Diego. “It will be a solid matchup. I was watching them today and they’ve got some serious talent,” confesses Ridenour. The quarterfinal games for the Adrln Elite and STX Elite brackets will begin at 9:30 AM and 10:30 AM, respectively. Five out of ten states and one Canadian province will be represented in the playoffs.

2013 Elite Shootout: Final Day Recap

Sonoma, CA: Tension ran high early this morning as four teams from each elite division were knocked out of the playoff brackets by 11:30 AM. RC Starz Elite Silver and ADVNC Elite 1 WC arrived today with no mercy, winning their first games 14-6 and 16-1, respectively. Lazers Elite Pink also continued their winning streak with a mere 8 to 7 win over Utah Zip it, a team whose goalie Caelahn Bullen has had a phenomenal showing this weekend in cage.

Motivated by their one tie shy of a perfect record, Laxbats Elite came out firing to snag a 10-2 win over 395 Starz. The rest of the STX Elite quarterfinal playoff games were toss-ups, with NorCal Braves, Saskatoon Scorpions, and LA Lazers Elite Black winning by only two goals at most. MN Loons also had a strong start to the day with a 13-2 win in their first challenge match.

A much anticipated semi final match between two undefeated teams, ADVNC Elite 1 WC and Lazers Elite Pink, ended with a 10-3 score in favor of ADVNC. On the other side of the bracket, Colorado Wild threw a wrench in what seemed like a sure Championship match up between ADVNC EC Elite 1 and RC Silver after the first set of games. Tied at half, Colorado came out strong in the 3rd quarter with a three goal run off of several crucial face-off wins. Regular time ended with an RC goal with 10 seconds left to make the score 9-9. Docked by an iffy out of bounds call on a check in overtime, RC could not gain possession and Colorado took advantage of their offensive opportunity. Colorado ended RC Elite Silver’s run with a hard pass inside for quick stick goal to solidify the win. Lazers Elite Black dominated the Laxbats 13-5, while NorCal Braves lost to the Saskatoon Scorpions 7-2 in the STX Elite semi-final round.

ADVNC Elite 1 WC and Colorado Wild faced off in the Adrln Elite Championship. Elite Shootout and All Star participant Joe Reid set the tone for ADVNC Elite 1 WC when he buried a shot off the opening face off less than ten seconds into the game. Reid continued to produce for his team, netting at least four during the final game.  Briton Barge also contributed a few to the scoreboard. With their natural speed and athleticism, the northern California squad gave little room for Colorado to catch up. ADVNC Elite 1 WC came away with the win 13 to 7 over the Wild. “I think they were the first team we played in the tournament,” says Joe Reid, a 2014 University of Denver Commit. “They were probably the best team we played all weekend.” The Elite Shootout marked the second consecutive championship win for ADVNC Elite 1 WC in an Adrenaline run tournament, as they dominated at the Adrenaline Challenge in Del Mar, CA this past January.

The STX Elite Championship game saw a closer match between LA Lazers Black and Saskatoon Scorpions. The first half ended with LA Lazers in the lead, 4-1. Must have been quite the half time speech because the Scorpions not only scored five goals in the second half, but they shutout the Lazers Black attack for the remainder of the game. Scorpions took the lead with six minutes left and scored an extra goal for the cherry on top. The Canadians claimed the STX Elite Division Championship title in a 6-4 win.

AdrenaFest: Tinsel Town Throwdown Recap

Pasadena, CA; July 13, 2013

The Rose Bowl, known for the New Year's Day football game of the same name, was this year’s host for the Adrenaline Tinsletown Throwdown sponsored by Rockin Refuel. Played in the heart of Pasadena, CA, the original Adrenaline festival showcased both Southern California lacrosse and culture at its finest. The tournament included an expanded field of teams, with players and everybody in attendance treated to an incredible atmosphere that only Adrenaline can provide.

Teams were excited to compete and after the first whistle blew, the tournament only got more enjoyable as the day went on. Sunshine, warm weather, and the chance to spend time together brought families out of their hotels and onto the sidelines. People rushed to vendor village in between games to grab some gelato, sample local food, and try the newest gear from Warrior, Brine, and Adrenaline.

After lunch on Day 1, LXM PRO players spent 2 hours meeting teams, signing jerseys (and faces), and teaching stick tricks.  Day 2 saw those same players playing a game of L.A.X. (think H.O.R.S.E. in basketball) and guest coaching high school teams.

The game of the weekend was between LaxDawgs Brown MS and LA Lazers Pink. From the opening faceoff, it was clear this game was going to be a battle. Coaches were fired up and the sidelines filled with spectators.

The first few minutes held a feverish pace and momentum swung back and forth with each possession. Both goalies came out hot in the first half; Easton Gormican (#18) of the LaxDawgs saved the first four shots of the game. After one of his saves, Gormican sent a fast break pass to Cole Wagner (LaxDawgs, #13) beyond the Lazers attack and for a transition goal ringing off the pipe and in by the Dawgs.

The sneaky Timmy Ferrar (LaxDawgs, #22) followed that up with a crease goal right before #11 for the Lazers matched him. Goals by LaxDawgs Kyle Crews, Gianni Orlando, and Cole Wagner were met by two Lazers goals for a 4-3 game at half.

The second half starts off great for the Lazers with a big goal 15 seconds in, but the LaxDawgs immediately followed with a finish by Cole Carlson (#10).

The majority of the second half saw the Lazers playing with the man advantage. After it was all said and done, those opportunities proved to be too much for the LaxDawgs, as the Lazers won 9-7.

The growth of the game was evident this weekend as 8-year olds scored behind the back goals on fields alongside their fully-grown high school siblings. People in attendance got a glimpse of the future of lacrosse and that future looks bright in TinselTown!

Aweosme article from The Baltimore Sun on Adrenaline Athlete, Peter Baum, and western expansion! Check it out below:

Last week, Baltimore Sun sports intern Aaron Kasinitz profiled Bear Davis, the Archbishop Spalding coach who was named head coach of Major League Lacrosse's Ohio Machine. It's an interesting story, well worth the read.

What's not mentioned, though, is that the last-place Machine happen to be missing a player they thought could elevate the upstart franchise. With the first pick in this year's draft, the Machine selected Peter Baum out of Colgate.

But Baum's out West, spending time in his hometown of Portland and preparing to move to Southern California to begin a marketing job for lacrosse apparel maker Adrenaline, which happens to be the parent company of LXM Pro, the other "pro" lacrosse entity in the country.

(In reality, no lacrosse player makes a living purely from playing the sport. Many need outside jobs. A few cobble together endorsement deals and camp jobs to make ends meet.)

Baum, the 2012 Tewaaraton Award winner as the best player in college lacrosse, has said repeatedly that his desire to help spread the game on the West Coast led to his spurning of the more high-profile MLL. He grew up playing in tournaments now run by Adrenaline, and credits that organization with helping him get recruited.

It also helps that joining LXM Pro opens up another avenue to make money: an endorsement deal with Baltimore-based STX. He joins Johns Hopkins grad Kyle Harrison, Salisbury alum Sam Bradman and former Syracuse attackman Tim Desko as sponsored athletes playing for the STX squad in LXM Pro.

"I think it just made a lot of sense for me to sign with STX and join in some of their efforts," Baum said Wednesday. "I've been using their gear since joining LXM and am excited to be a part of the family."

Baum became the first player west of the Mississippi river to win the Tewaaraton, and STX plans to use him heavily in the West Coast to expand business there. STX recently reached a deal to sponsor the elite youth team, the West Coast Starz, that helped Baum get noticed by the East Coast lacrosse establishment.

"He's a guy players from non-traditional lacrosse markets can look to," said Greg Tate, the marketing manager for men's lacrosse at STX. "He puts a face on the top-level of lacrosse, making the game feel more accessible."

Besides playing for Team STX, Baum will make promotional appearances and help with product development.

Because MLL is owned and operated by Warrior lacrosse, it has been difficult for players to secure endorsement deals with outside companies. MLL began offering other gear makers the chance to "buy in" to the league this season and outfit players in their gear. STX ultimately decided not to do so due to the price.

(I wrote about LXM Pro's business model and its rivalry with MLL earlier this year.)

Baum said he is happy with his decision to join LXM Pro. He's played only two games on the circuit, while counterparts in the MLL have played 10. LXM Pro's next tour stop is Chicago on July 20.

"I think the quality of the competition makes it worth it," Baum said. "It's not like MLL guys are practicing everyday, either. There's no situation that really allows that, so it's pretty even."

STX works the summer tournament and camp circuit heavily, Tate said, relying on its pro players to give a face to the brand. But the company also has a traveling marketing team and RV that allows players to test out new equipment. They even have a program that allows players to "check out" equipment and use it in games so they can decide whether or not to buy it.

Baum will take part in product demonstrations at future tournaments.

"When you're dealing with the West Coast, there's still so much teaching to be done," he said. "The level of the athlete has raised so much even since I was in high school, but the nuances of the game still need to be developed."

The key to growing the game, Baum believes, is convincing a West Coast school to sponsor Division I lacrosse. Denver has become a powerhouse, but Baum is hoping a school in California -- like USC -- will elevate its team and challenge the likes of Johns Hopkins and Maryland.

"I think you'd see explosive growth if there were more elite college teams out here," he said.

2013 Adrenaline Showcase: Top Ten Most Impressive Players

$

The fifth annual Adrenaline Showcase marked another great event for western lacrosse as 170 of the most talented individuals in the west gained significant exposure to NCAA and MCLA recruiters from all over the country. The Adrenaline Evaluation Team (AET) and various college coaches have assembled a list of the top ten players who most impressed:

Eli Suhadolnik: (Torrey Pines, Midfield, California) Suhadolnick is an athletic lefty who showed great speed, toughness and a knack for the goal. Suhadolnik made plays in a variety of modalities and showed a strong shot as well.

Matt Burton: (Sunset High School, Midfield, Oregon) A versatile and athletic midfielder, Burton jumped off the page today, doing a little bit of everything. Burton showed good decision-making and a strong righty shot, as well as an ability to get to good spots on the field.

Garret Bullett: (Alta High School, Long Pole Midfield, Utah) An aggressive, tough and tenacious LSM, Bullett makes up for his lack of size with a motor that doesn’t stop and a confrontational mentality, that coaches love.

Ryland Rees (Terry Fox Secondary School, Long Pole Midfield, Canada) Rees showed a great stick and a flare for making plays. The Canadian pole pushed transition and made plays in each of the afternoon games.

Hugh Crance: (Corona Del Mar, Defense, California) Crance was a relentless nuisance to his attackmen. He pushed out on his opponents and showed great feet and tremendous off ball play.

John Duffy: (Jesuit High School, Midfield, Oregon) Duffy gets downhill and is a superior athlete. A left-handed, hard-nosed midfielder, Duffy is a two-way player that is effective in the clearing and transition game.

Mitchell Fabroni: (Mountain Pointe High School, Midfield, Arizona) Fabroni is raw, athletic, and physical. We may have seen just the tip of the iceberg with this young man. When Fabroni’s skills catch up to his physical gifts, this could be a heck of a lacrosse player.

Austin Streeter: (San Clemente High School, Midfield, CA) Streeter is stocky, shifty and has great hands. He also showed toughness and has a nice outside shot.

Ben Paris: (Lincoln High School, Defense, Oregon) A conservative, yet physical defenseman, Paris may have the best feet in the event and is one of the better communicators.

Daniel Lier: (Coronado High School, Defense, Nevada)- Lier certainly passes the eye test and takes up a lot of space. Lier slid well, occupied skip lanes and was long and rangy.

With the ever-growing development of lacrosse in the west, the Adrenaline Showcase has become the “poster boy” of tournaments for western recruiting events. With the high level of talent showcased this weekend, there’s no doubt college coaches will focus their efforts on the emerging western hotbeds. Here is a list of the 2013 Adrenaline Showcase recruiters.

With roots in lacrosse, Adrenaline is one of the most unique companies in all of sports due to its multi-faceted and truly authentic nature. LXM PRO Chicago will host the third game of the 2013 LXM PRO season, presented by Champion. Surrounding the game will be a two day youth tournament. Between the games, tournament attendees will be able to check out three different LXM PRO clinics on the designated LXM PRO field. The LXM PRO clinics offer a unique experience where the best players in the game give free instruction to the youth of the sport.

LXM players have a passion for teaching and passing on essential knowledge to the new dynamic generation of young athletes.  The modern game is evolving quickly.  Largely crafted by many of the LXM professionals who offer slight improvements on steadfast historical techniques while introducing exclusive new age innovations that they happily articulate to the new generation of players.  When a young player has the opportunity to soak up the exclusive knowledge from Kyle Harrison, Sam Bradman, Peter Baum, Johnny Christmas, Billy Bitter, Matt Russell and others in one day at one location it is a special day.  Beyond knowledge each LXM clinic offers valuable life lessons that will have a lasting impact on attendees.

Take advantage of this huge opportunity to learn from these leaders of the sport such as Sam Bradman, Peter Baum, Kyle Harrison, and Matt Russell in these clinics and by watching Team STX and Maverik United faceoff at 2:15pm at the Naperville Polo Fields. Check out the schedule listed below:

Another unqiue and extremely valuable bonus to attending an LXM|ATS event is the opportunity to learn from some of the best NCAA Division I coaches in the country. The game is quickly evolving in the West, and so is the need for quality coaches to keep up with the ever-growing talent that is emerging. Recognizing the importance of knowledgable coaching to facilitate legitimate development of players in the west, Adrenaline has worked with the Notre Dame Coaching staff over the passed ten years to ensure proper education of western coaches. The Notre Dame Coaching Clinics will utilize a multi-faceted approach to educate and enhance a coach’s knowledge of the game. Some topics to expect during the coaching seminars:

  • -Classroom lectures with an organized curriculum covering offensive, defensive and team concepts.
  • -Field strategy session with coaches explaining drills and concepts from an on the field perspective.
  • -Recruitment seminars open to coaches, players and parents explaining the rules and strategies to achieve recruitment success.

There will be three coaching clinics per day on Saturday and Sunday and will be headed by Notre Dame Head Coach, Kevin Corrigan. The clinics are free and open to all team coaches who are participating in the tournament! Below is the coaches clinic scheudule for this weekend.

ADRLN Elite Shootout Recap From Inside Lacrosse

2013 Adrenaline Showcase, showcase, lacrosse, recruiting, inside lacrosse, lacrosse tournament, lacrosse camp, adrenaline lacrosse, adrln, how to get recruited

Another great article from Inside Lacrosse's, Ty Xanders,  this one featuring the Adrenaline Elite Shootout! Check it out below:

Another great weekend on the recruiting circuit is in the books, and I came away from the Adrenaline Elite Shootout in Northern California more than impressed with the amount of promising talent present on the West Coast.

Jetlagged and still having heart pains from the amount of In-N-Out Burger I put down for dinner on Sunday, it's time to wrap up the weekend on the campus of Sonoma State University. Gotta give some love to the semifinal between RC Starz Elite Silver and Colorado Wild - arguably the best game I watched all summer.

In the ADRLN Division, the boys from ADVNC Elite 1 (pictured above) had a stellar performance in knocking off the Wild in the championship, 13-7. In the STX Division, the Saskatoon Scorpions pulled out a 6-4 victory to take the other championship. For a full listing of scores, click here for a jump to Adrenaline's site

Thanks again to everybody at Adrenaline, most notably Jono Zissi and Rory Doucette, for not only the hospitality but putting on such a talent-laden, well-run tournament. Take a look at my Day 1 & 2 recap of the Shootout here

While outside the conventional recruiting map, a ton of top Division I programs were represented at both the Shootout and Showcase, plus countless MCLA, Division I and Division II programs grabbing uncommitted. Among those spotted were UNC's Chris Fiefs, Maryland's Ryan Moran, Navy's Ryan Wellner, Michigan's John Paul, Bryant's Mike Pressler, Bucknell's Joe Conner, Air Force's Bill Wilson, Harvard's Adam Ghitelman and Fairfield's Andy Whitley, among others. In addition, Notre Dame's Gerry Byrne and Kevin Corrigan and Denver's Dylan Sheridan were all on hand directing the clinics and 32-team tournament, respectively.

If you have a confirmed Division I verbal - if you're the recruit, parent or club/HS coach - emailtxanders@insidelacrosse.com to have your commitment posted. Please include your stats/honors, events attended in the summer of 2013 and schools strongly considered. Feel free to throw in anything else (highlight reels, honors in other sports, etc.) you may deem important and we'll get it up in our next Recruiting Roundup.

COLORADO WILD PULL SEMIFINAL UPSET IN A CLASSIC

It's somewhat cliché, but this was a statement win for this Colorado Wild club team, beating a previously undefeated RC Starz Silver Elite squad boasting some notable Division I prospects. As a fourth seed playing the top seed, their odds of getting a win weren't great, but they buckled down and made plays when they needed to to get the 10-9 overtime victory.

The Wild got after it right off the bat with a pair of goals, also helped by excellent goalie play by Kaleb Van Arsdale, who was seeing the ball well early and stopped some lasers by talented shooters. John Roach (Wheat Ridge '14) had an easy finish in transition assisted by Anthony SanFilippo (Columbine '14), followed by a cannon from the alley by Max Wiesner (Monarch '15) with a helper from Roach.

Paced by their big guns, RC would score four of the game's next six goals. Andrew Tien (Bishop's '14), an excellent uncommitted recruit, eluded big checks to finish unassisted inside, followed by outside shots by Michael Kay (Cathedral Catholic, Calif. '14/Drexel), Pierre Byrne (Culver, Ind. '14/Notre Dame) and Jack Beare (Episcopal Dallas '14/Notre Dame).

Colorado Wild would come out hot out of the half, putting up four consecutive tallies, including a pair by SanFillippo to give the promising rising junior a hat trick. Byrne would respond with two great goals - one a time and room bomb with nine minutes left and the other a top left shot on the run to cut the deficit to 8-6.

The Wild's last goal in regulation would come from - surprise, surprise - Anthony SanFilippo, when he scooped up a groundball in front of the crease and put it low.

After a ton of unsuccessful shot attempts after which RC retained possession, pesky Ivy League recruitConnor McCroskey (Bishop's School '15, Calif.) had a nice little undermove on his man and finished diving in close to tie it up as regulation expired.

Though the Colorado Wild played smart and physical defense in overtime, most notably Zach Anderson (Rock Canyon '14) and Zane Larson (Green Mountain '14), it was RC Silver that had all of the opportunities in the world to clinch the win. Though a controversial no-call caused some shakeup and disappointment, Alec Mayhan (Mullen '14) caught the defense sleeping and ended the game with a huge goal assisted by Alex McAfee (Liberty '14).

ADVNC ELITE 1 PICK UP WELL DESERVED TITLE

ADVNC Elite 1's tremendous weekend culminated in a 13-7 win over a tough Colorado Wild squad. The ADVNC program was started by former Virginia midfielder and 2003 Tewaaraton winner Chris Rotelli, while the winning squad was coached by Joe Thompson, another former Wahoo.

With Division I commits - namely Cyrus Scott (Colgate), Joe Reid (Denver), Josh Wellman (Penn State), Liam Bourke (Michigan) and Chris Hill (Navy) - littering the roster, the team almost didn't need any guidance. They just embraced a fun 'run and gun' style, which was more than evident in the title game.

"I feel like we controlled the middle third of the field on defense and on offense and that was the difference maker," Thompson said after posing for the championship photo. "Everybody's congratulating me but I hardly did anything. I just sat there and watched those guys play great lacrosse."

Seconds into the game, Denver-bound midfielder Joe Reid (Casa Grande '14) scored right off the face-off, going almost untouched right through the heart of the defense. He then followed that up with another tally to make it 2-0 in an outstanding five-goal (unofficial stat) performance in which he took over and proved how dominant he's capable of being. Reid showcased excellent hands and athleticism, unleashing rapid shots in transition that Colorado Wild keepers Kaleb Van Arsdale(Steamboat Springs '14) and Jordan Travis (Grandview '14) probably had trouble reading.

Though Reid took over the ballgame, he also received some excellent help from his teammates on both ends. Austin Colvin, a crafty and hard-nosed rising senior attackman hoping to attend a service academy, also had a nice game. Patrick Tracy (Redwood '14), Nicholas Hallmark (Marin Catholic '14) and Brinton Barge (Redwood '14) also registered goals in the first half, after which ADVNC held a comfortable 8-3 lead.

From there, it was smooth sailing. Using chemistry they'd built playing for the same Redwood H.S. squad, longpoles Bourke, Matt Kennis and Peter Mascheroni all played stout defense, scooping up GB's and pushing the ball upfield. In cage, Cyrus Scott's job was made relatively easy in the second stanza.

"We had a tight group of 21 guys so there weren't a lot of subs - two midfields, three attackmen and one pole subbing," Thompson said. "I don't feel as if we had a weakness. It wasn't necessarily anybody stepping up more than anyone else, it was just nobody stepped down and everybody did their job."

LXM PRO News: Maverik United Aquires Bratton Twins, Davey Emala Fills Their Shoes for Team STX

Big news from the LXM PRO today as the tour prepares for its third stop of 2013 in Chicago on Saturday. Maverik United has acquired Shamel and Rhamel Bratton from Team STX, a deal the two teams have been discussing since early June.  The former University of Virginia All-American midfielders will round out Maverik United’s offensive unit and introduce their electric style of play to an already explosive attack.  Both Shamel and Rhamel have been on point delivering big games in Orange County and Del Mar.  Shamel has put up a combined seven goals and two assists at the first two events and Rhamel will continue to be an initiator on offense and a classic two way threat.  The Brattons will join a veteran Maverik United midfield unit of former collegiate All Americans such as Navy great, Graham Gill, former Syracuse standout, Sean Lindsay, and former Notre Dame star, Zach Brennemen. "Both Shamel and Rhamel have been great ambassadors for LXM,” says Jeff Burroughs, coach of Maverik United. “Their dynamic play and commitment will be a very welcome addition to the Maverik United team."

Team STX has signed newcomer Davey Emala, recent UNC goal scorer, to help fill the void that the Brattons leave behind. In his first two years of collegiate play, Davey was a starter for the Georgetown Hoyas, earning himself second team All- Big East and lead the team in scoring with 48 points in his sophomore year. Emala finished his last two years of eligibility at the University of North Carolina where his competitive nature thrived at the chance to compete for a National Championship title both years. Emala is a consistent player with a great shot and phenomenal Lacrosse IQ, always finding the most advantageous pockets on the field.  He will add a fresh and unique look to the Team STX midfield line, alongside former Blue Jay and Tewaaraton Award winner, Kyle Harrison, 2x All American Salisbury Alum, Sam Bradman, and UNC’s Most Outstanding Player honoree, Sean Delaney. “We're excited to bring a guy like Davey Emala on board because he adds a different dynamic to our offense,” says Kyle Harrison. “We've got a lot of dodgers on our team and Davey is a guy who doesn't need the ball in his stick a ton to be successful. He makes a lot of plays catching and finishing, being in the right place at the right time, and making good decisions with the ball in order for the offense to be successful.”

Despite the name change on their jerseys, Rhamel and Shamel will continue to immerse themselves in local lacrosse communities, whether it is through the LXM PRO Clinics, post game hangouts and autographs sessions, or even attending local lacrosse practices for LXM PRO Advance. Davey Emala will also get a firsthand experience of what has become staple perks of the LXM PRO culture.

Coming off a very successful first weekend in Sonoma, CA with back-to-back events including the Adrenaline Showcase and Elite Shootout, twenty-two top High School level western club teams will participate in the Adrenaline High School Shootout beginning this Friday, July 19th, 2013. Teams will travel from six different states- CA, AZ, TX, OR, WA, NV- and Canada to compete in three days worth of games in hopes of claiming the Adrenaline and STX Division titles. Teams will also participate in advanced collegiate level positional clinics led by NCAA college coaches. With the help of these NCAA coaches, the Adrenaline Evaluation Team (AET) will select the top players in the tournament to showcase their skills in an All-Star game at 2:15 PM on Saturday, accompanied by a Slam Dunk contest at halftime.

The Lazers organization is known for dominating the High School Shootout, as the LA Lazers HS Pink and LA Lazers HS Black teams are the 2012 reigning Adrenaline and Maverik Division Champions, respectively. Lazers High School Black also won the STX High School division at the LXM PRO San Diego event in late June. ADVNC 2016 and Saskatoon Stingers will look to follow in the footsteps of the ADVNC Elite 1 WC and Saskatoon Scorpions who earned Elite Championship titles this past weekend. These teams have been placed in the same bracket, allowing only one of them to come out on top. LA Lazers HS Pink will play in the same bracket as Saskatoon and ADVNC, determined to win again while seeking revenge on ADVNC for knocking the undefeated LA Lazers Elite Pink squad out of the playoffs last Sunday.

Rhino Orangemen and Sala High School step into the spotlight as two programs that did not play in the Elite Shootout. Sala High School has a reputation to uphold since they claimed the 2013 SKLZ High School Division Championship at the recent LXM PRO San Diego tournament. Other programs that have historically done well at the High School Shootout are RC, Seattle Starz, and LaxDawgs.

The Men's Tropics will make their way up to beautiful Lake Tahoe this weekend to defend their title at the Lake Tahoe Invitational tournament. The Tropics really made a statement in 2012, overpowering the competition en route to an undefeated weekend and the tournament crown.

This year’s team will be deep and explosive. The attack will be lead by Lucas Gradinger (Maryland), Sean Doyle (Cornell), Kyle Runyon (Notre Dame) and Cory Couture (Denison). A string of extremely talent players, including several LXM PROs, will make up the midfield, including Christian Pastirik (Cornell), Matt Miller (Yale), Michael Keasey (Yale), Brock Ghelfi (Bucknell) and Tyler Ekeroth (Denver). Defensively, the Tropics will look to smother opponents with pressure from Nick Gradinger (Cornell), Eddy Glazener (Notre Dame), Trent Lauer (Fairfield), Johnny Poe (WAC) and Spencer Peterson (Duke). Michael Ortleib (Holy Cross) will be asked to stand tall in goal and contribute heavily as the last line of defense.

The Adrenaline Men's Tropics squad has been placed in the Group A division with three opposing teams: Salt Shakerz, Palo Alto, and Sac Bay Koalas. The team will kick off their first game at 9:00 AM Friday against the Sac Bay Koalas, with the rest of the day’s competition dependent upon a win/loss structure. Quarterfinal games will take place early Saturday morning, with semi finals and Championship games occurring the following day. Click here for a look at the weekend schedule and a complete list of divisions.

Players will once again receive the complete Adrenaline Treatment, taking the field in style in a head-to-toe custom designed uniform. The outfit includes tropical patterned uniforms with matching shorts and Adrenaline socks, as well as a custom-wrapped Cascade R with the matching Tropics decal and Maverik Rome gloves to complete the look. Adrenaline will contribute the last item to this phenomenal gear pack with a custom gray lifestyle pocket t-shirt from the Adrenaline Movement for players to wear underneath pinnies or between games. Other proud sponsors of the Tropics program include SKLZAthlete’s Performance, and Knockaround- the official eyewear sponsor of Adrenaline Tropics.

“Tropics are the light at the end of the tunnel for all of our youngest Adrenaline players”, says Jono Zissi, Adrenaline Recruiting Director and Tropics Head Coach. “ They are the best and brightest to come up through our ranks, have played or are now playing at the highest level, and are acting as ambassadors for Adrenaline and western lacrosse at large.”

Be sure to tune in to youtube.com/adrlnlacrosse and the Adrenaline website for updates and media coverage of the 2013 Tropics franchise, as we will post release dates for the second season of the Tropumentary in the upcoming weeks.
