Heart and Sole Socks: Adrenaline Awareness

2013 featured company wide growth in virtually every single department of Adrenaline, including Adrenaline Awareness, which is comprised of our charitable contributions to our various charity partners. Although each and every one of our Awareness partners holds a special place in our hearts, there are a few that we get to spend more time with and interact with on a more intimate level. One in particular that comes to mind is the Rady Children’s hospital here in San Diego. We’ve been fortunate enough to be invited on “special visits” where we get to essentially just hang out with patients at the hospital. If you’ve ever spent more than a few hours in a hospital you can imagine how refreshing it is to simply go outside and get some fresh air in a stress-free atmosphere.

We bring our art department out, a few marketing producers and a couple LXM PRO’s and head out to Carley’s Magical Garden, a designated area where patients can relax and enjoy some time outside. While in Carley’s Garden we work on art projects, t-shirt designs with stencils and paint, toss the lacrosse ball around, play board games and generally just smile a TON.

We’ve also been involved with the Rady Children’s “Heart Party” where we activate a marketing crew onsite to host a fastest shot competition for prizes, teach the kids how to pass and catch as well as educate them on the sport in a fun and friendly environment. This event is a blast and it really got us turned on to the thought of, “how can we help more?” Our answer was to create a custom “Heart and Sole” sock with proceeds benefiting the Rady Childrens Hospital; In particular, their heart department.

The result is one of the coolest socks we’ve ever created and there’s been a ton of buzz around it. Fortunately the socks are finally in our retail stores and we’re starting to see some movement! Check out the socks HERE

The people at Rady Children’s are so nice and are always thanking us for coming out but in reality we are the ones who feel rewarded by the experience with them. Getting out of the office and interacting with kids and doing our best to give back to the community is something that we cherish and look forward to. February is the national heart month and a great time to raise awareness and money for this incredible hospital! Buy some socks today!

The Adrenaline Finishing School

A lot of attention has been given to Canadian box lacrosse players and their rise as the premier scorers in Division 1 lacrosse.  A lot of companies have been playing off this trend by offering box lacrosse and hybrid systems as the only way to become a good player.  Not only is this ridiculous but it is offending to these tremendously talented Canadian lacrosse players.  These players would be good regardless of where and how they grew up playing.  Canada’s national sport was lacrosse until 1994, and since then it has become the national summer sport with hockey being the national winter sport.  Most kids grow up playing lacrosse in the summers and the field game has become even more prevalent with club teams in the summer and high school teams in the spring.  In the US, although it is a growing sport, it is not even close to the popularity it has in Canada.

Box lacrosse is a great sport and has a lot to teach offensive field players.  The shot clock means there are a lot of possession changes which forces more scoring opportunities.  Players learn to play offense in both settled and unsettled situations.  More importantly, shooters learn to finish instead of shoot because of the smaller goal and bigger goalies.  Being able to shoot and being able to finish are two very different things.  Shooting is an art and like an art some of it is natural talent; athleticism, hand & eye coordination, and instinct all play a part.   But it is also something that can be learned and refined through technique and practice.  Every offensive player should be able to shoot with both hands from time & room, on the run, and finish inside.  They should be able to do this from a multitude of spots on the field and different situations.  The only way to do this is by learning proper shooting mechanics, getting repetitions to develop memory, and practicing it in game-like drills.

The Finishing School is a one-day, 6 –hour program designed to teach you these skills.  Adrenaline has assembled an amazing coaching staff including Tewaaraton trophy winners, NCAA All-Americans, and LXM Pros to teach you the skills and drills necessary to become a better finisher.  The day will consist of teaching shooting technique with Peter Baum, off ball movement with Geoff Worley, and inside finishing with Erik Krum.  We will be drilling these skills throughout the day in different drills so players can be effective in all situations.  At the end of the day, players will receive a worksheet of all the drills they learned so they can continue to practice them on their own.  With the season right around the corner there is no better time to learn these skills and step up your game this spring.  Being able to score just 5 more goals may mean the difference of breaking the starting lineup, becoming an All-County player, or getting some college looks.  Don’t miss this chance to learn from some of the best players in the game and become a better player this spring.

I hope to see all of you on the field!

Regional Starz Commitment Statistics

With Summer and Fall recruiting events in the rearview and players entering their spring preseason, Adrenaline has consistently received news of Regional Starz committed players. In the past year, 84 Regional Starz players have committed to play at the NCAA level, with a majority of the commitments occurring in the past five months (NOTE: this number does not include all committed players who have attended Adrenaline recruiting events, such as those who attended the Adrenaline Black Card and NSCLA Champions Cup last June).

To get an idea of the overwhelming impact the Adrenaline Starz program has on the growth of lacrosse in western states, we’ve gathered percentages of Starz commits vs. non-Starz commits in states where Regional Starz programs exist. Seven states (Arizona, California, Nevada, Oregon, Texas, Utah, and Washington) and one Canadian province (Alberta) are currently home to the fifteen Regional Starz club programs and over eighty teams. As displayed in the map, the percentages per state are based on the 2014-2017 grad year classes.

Below is a list of the Regional Starz programs per state:

Arizona: AZ Force, SALA Starz

California: LaxDawgs, Alpha, RC Starz, 395 Starz, OC Kings, LA Lazers

Nevada: Vegas Starz

Oregon: Rhino Lacrosse

Texas: ATX LaxBats (not applicable)

Utah: Utah Starz, Utah Blackhawks

Washington: Seattle Starz

Canada (Alberta): Mustangs

Regional Starz

Regional Starz programs make up the second level of the Adrenaline Starz System. Regional Starz are highly competitive, geographically determined teams composed of the top players from various regions in the U.S and Canada. In the absence of a nearby Local Starz program (level one), or if a player shows impressive skill development, players can enter the Starz system at the Regional level. The number of Regional teams accepted into the Adrenaline Starz system is dependent upon the amount of talented players within a specific region and is determined by an application process through the Starz Board of Directors. Each season Regional Starz teams attend an event with top-level collegiate recruitment elements to maximize player exposure. Regional Starz players are also the only players eligible for West Coast Starz; if they make one of the WCS Sectional (level three) or WCS National (level four) teams, they will attend additional top-level recruitment events on the East Coast. Players who have tried out for the WCS ’14 summer season (rosters announced February) will attend these upcoming events. In addition to the various team recruitment opportunities, Regional Starz players also receive premium access to the Adrenaline Evaluation Team (AET) who is responsible for player invites to the top individual recruitment events across the nation.

2014 Foothill Knight (CA) Owenn Geis (OC Crush, OC Kings Elite) has committed to Division III Gordon College in Wenham, MA. Owen, who is the 2014 captain for the Knights, will be a part of the Fighting Scots Lacrosse team next year.  At 6’3” 190 lbs he is one of the top defenseman in the league, catching a lot of attention from many colleges for his play after the Adrenaline Shootout in Sonoma, CA and the Adrenaline High Rollers event in Costa Mesa, CA.

“Owenn, is a top notch kid both on and off the field. Besides being the captain and leader of our team, Owenn won the Hank Nunez, “Knight of the Year Award for citizenship”, for volunteering countless hours for charity last year as well as starting a lacrosse program with Lacrosse the Nation in Nicaragua," states Jon Fox, Head Coach of Foothill High School. "Gordon College has a special kid here. He’s a home grown product of our lacrosse system, starting as a Tustin Tiger in 4th and 5th grade to playing with Adrenaline Starz OC Kings Elite and captain of our varsity high school team. Owenn had many college choices, but after he visited many of them he found the perfect fit.  I am just very proud of him.” adds Fox.

San Diego, Calif. — Building on the enormous success of the past two summers, Adrenaline Lacrosse has announced that the famed Adrenaline Black Card Recruiting Event will be held on June 13th, at Rutgers University in Piscataway, NJ. Always known for exceeding expectations, Adrenaline has introduced a new twist, partnering with the 8 best club programs in the country to form the Adrenaline Platinum Cup. With the remarkable talent in attendance, the Platinum Cup will be the premier club tournament in the country, and will be held immediately following the conclusion of the Adrenaline Black Card event, June 14th – 15th.  The inaugural event is set to include, Team 91, Long Island Express, True National, Mesa Fresh, West Coast Starz, Dukes, Laxachusetts, and Sweetlax. Each club program will bring their national teams from the graduation years of 2015 to 2019 for this highly competitive tournament. There will be divisional champions at each individual graduation year. The Black Card and The Platinum Cup will combine to create an unparalleled recruiting weekend as college recruiters will be afforded the opportunity to evaluate the best players in the country in an individual setting at the Black Card event and also within a team tournament at the Platinum Cup. All proceeds from the Adrenaline Black Card will be donated to the National Prostate Foundation in the name of coaching icon Jack McGetrick.

“This event is very simple.  It is about the 8 best clubs in the sport coming together to compete in high quality games over the course of a single weekend.  When building this weekend it has been about two things: putting the players in the best situation possible to ultimately give them the most opportunities for their future and creating an event that has a mission beyond the lacrosse field.  We believe the intimate environment, highly competitive clubs, and first class event production will create a memorable and valuable experience for the athletes.  Connecting the event with the Black Card event only enhances what will be a great three days of lacrosse. Also including the top players and teams in the country with a charitable cause is important to the Adrenaline Movement.  These influencers in our sport have a chance to redefine its culture and I hope this event can show them they can." Alex Cade, President and CEO

The Adrenaline Black Card will feature the top 1% of uncommitted players in the entire country at this summer’s event. Only the top 114 players from North America will be invited to the most exclusive recruiting event in lacrosse. Only the 2016 and 2017 classes will be represented. Each team will be comprised of 19 players who will compete in four games throughout the day. Last year’s event produced an unprecedented CPSR (Adrenaline’s Collegiate Placement Success Rate) for upperclassmen and a commitment rate of 100% is expected as the 2016s continue to make the next step towards committing to play lacrosse at the collegiate level.

The Adrenaline Black Card event is becoming widely known as the top individual recruiting event in the country, and the Platinum Cup is anticipated by many to be the most exclusive team-recruiting event. Black Card will feature the top uncommitted players from each of the Platinum affiliated clubs in addition to the best remaining talent from outlier clubs and high school teams across the country.  In addition to unparalleled recruiting exposure, Black Card participants will also receive a custom gear pack from Cascade, Maverik and Adrenaline Apparel. The Adrenaline Evaluation Team (AET) along with the help of recommendations from respected high school, club and college coaches will combine forces to invite only the most deserving and recruit-able players in the country.

In 2012, Adrenaline became the first company to disregard the preconceived notions of high priced recruiting showcases with the design of the Adrenaline Black Card. The event, which is run again this year at cost, only charges the participating players for the use of fields, referees, and coaches. The fee for this year’s event is $150.00, a price point that is absolutely unprecedented in the world of recruiting showcases. Adrenaline is confident that this event will undoubtedly pool together the absolute top 1% of our country’s best players.

Most importantly, Adrenaline will be raising awareness for Prostate Cancer in honor of Coach Jack McGetrick. The longtime Bellarmine and Hartford coach lost a long battle to the disease in 2010. All proceeds from the event will be donated in his name. Last year the Adrenaline Awareness initiative raised over $2,700 for the great cause, a number that hopefully will be trumped by this year’s fundraising as awareness continues to spread. If you wish to make a donation please do so by visiting the Jack McGetrick Donation Page (http://athletes.kintera.org/faf/donorReg/donorPledge.asp?ievent=186390&supid=352948926). To learn more about the gear, recruiters, event details and rosters visit 2014 Adrenaline Black Card (http://adrln.com/events/2014-adrenaline-black-card/) .

The event will host over 100 college recruiters, including virtually every top program in Division I lacrosse. Harvard, Duke, Virginia, Denver, Maryland, UNC and a multitude of other top schools will be in attendance. Coaches will be provided the perfect opportunity to evaluate the best talent, right in their backyard.

“We were able to lay a solid foundation for this event in our first two years and we have all of the top coaches in the country signing on and supporting us for this initiative in year three. The amount of recruiters coupled with the talent pool and low cost, make this unlike any other marquee recruiting event in the country, and that is something we are very proud of here at Adrenaline.” Jono Zissi, Director of Recruiting.

This year Black Card has teamed up with Cascade and Maverik for all hard goods, with ADRLN apparel onboard as official soft goods provider. This year’s Adrenaline Treatment gear pack will include custom designed Cascade R helmets, custom designed Rome NXT gloves, Adrenaline Treated (http://adrln.com/team-treatment/) jerseys, shorts and socks. Check out last year’s gear pack (http://gear.insidelacrosse.com/news/2013/06/12/adrenaline-black-card-gear ) and stay tuned for the ’14 Adrenaline Black Card gear! Gatorade will be on site this year as well, to ensure each player stays hydrated throughout the day with water and Gatorade available at every field. SKLZ will also be onsite to provide knowledge and instruction to these players as they take their game to the next level. With a great crew of supporting sponsors, the 2014 Adrenaline Black Card is certain to be the best yet.

Max Ritz: The Essentials

Max Ritz is a core member of the both the Adrenaline corporate and Athlete team. He is a Co-Founder of LXM PRO and was Adrenaline Apparel's first employee many years ago. He embodies the brand and has been a great ambassador for Adrenaline and west coast lacrosse in general; Max being an Adrenaline Athlete is merely a formalization of what has already taken place for quite awhile. His essentials are a snapshot of pieces that are truly close to him on a daily basis, as he stands in front of the foremost apparel brand in our sport's history.

Essentials (From Top Left, going down each “column” of items)

  1. Notebook– A must have, for meetings, calls and the day’s anecdotes. A good friend of ours, who runs a design firm in Portland and LA, customized books for a handful of us using a 3-D laser cutter. Pretty cool to have the Adrln logo and my burned into my daily notebook. Thx TG.
  2. Coffee– This has become a big part of our company. Not in a bad way, but there are great options in LA, SD and Austin. My favorite roast right now comes from Deus Ex Machina, Intelligentsia or Rose Café. Could use a dark roast right now, come to think of it.
  3. iPhone and Earbuds– Sadly, these are on me during 90% of my waking hours. Whether I’m working, exercising, driving, et al, these are just needed. FYI – Some of the best money I’ve spent as an adult have been premium upgrades in Spotify, Dropbox and Evernote…
  4. LXM PRO Beanie– I spend a lot of time on the road. The east coast is cold, straight up. Needed this over the past few weeks to keep me warm, and I’ll it as I head back in the near future.
  5. Chinos – I like these for day-to-day stuff. I think this pair is from a company called Toddland. My sister works in apparel and recommended them years ago, still going. Typically I’m a Levi’s or Toddlands guy.
  6. Hats – Thru some changes to the hat sector of our apparel business, we now have a product that is literally second-to-none. Great fit, fabric, durability, aesthetic. We’ve unveiled a number of SMUs with great retail-partners (like the “Stars” “Camo” and “Aztec” varieties shown), and continue to unveil general items like the “Camo West” in black and green-camo.
  7. So Nice Crewneck Sweatshirt– Have always loved these. We made a duo of sweatshirts in 2010 called the Gym Class and the Afterschooler. I loved them, they received great reviews….. About a year after we made them. That’s okay – Crewneck sweatshirts are back, we make great ones, that’s all that matters.
  8. Throwback Shorts– Our Throwback model of shorts feature precisely that: a throwback aesthetic and cut. Despite this colorway’s undeniable association with Boston baseball and football teams, I like them a lot.
  9. Fellowship T-Shirt– This is one of many Adrenaline tees I like. Like most in our company and design team, I like any t-shirt that boast great fabric and classic design. It’s not difficult to create great t-shirts… it’s difficult to force drive people away from the horrible trends or sport has endured.
  10. Throwback Gypsy Shorts– Same cut as the Throwback shorts referenced above, but with the Vendetta fabric. This is a proprietary fabric that Adrenaline has sourced thru experts with decades of experience in performance apparel technologies. I’ve tried every short in the market – These are top notch.
  11. Strife Two-Tone Shooter Shirt– This year we unveiled a shooting shirt in a number of colorways. I like the two-tone variety, for whatever reason, but the fabric of these shirts is what makes them useful. Our sport’s athletes have long-since used old school cotton tees underneath uniforms and pads. There is more at stake in our sport now, and better athletes require better goods. This shooting shirt actually improves with moisture (sweat), which unfortunately acts as a motivator to get going in a workout.
  12. Fray Vendetta Shorts– These shorts combine the Vendetta fabric (described above) with a construction that is unique to the high-level lacrosse athlete. We’ve added lycra inserts in key areas (rear lower back, side of knee) to cater to movements we know the best lacrosse players use. Our company is founded, operated and driven by guys who’ve been in the sport for 30+ years… Using some of that knowledge might help our apparel, eh?
  13. Knockaround Sunglasses– Great company, smart model, cool people. They are an easy brand to support, plus they are San Diego-based as well and have supported the LXM and Adrenaline businesses for years. They produce a ton of SKUs and pass a lot of value thru to the consumer, and they have great reach in mainstream markets. This pair is one of many I own – Check em out.
  14. Socks– I can’t say enough about our socks. Like many others, throughout my life I’ve worn countless varieties of socks. Tubes, ankles, crew, compression, technical, cotton, wool, synthetic, bright, dull, weathered, new, etc… Adrenaline, for whatever reason, has a foothold in the sock category and we’ve spent a great deal of time, money, intellect, and emotional capital maintaining that. We offer 150+ styles, we sell them in over 1,000 stores around the world, and it’s something we take a lot of pride in. I’ve worn Adrenaline socks exclusively for the past 5yrs, and never once have I had a blister, rip, tear, or any issue whatsoever. Proud of that.

West Coast Starz: '14 Summer Schedule

The West Coast Starz '14 Summer Tryout Tour is officially over! Adrenaline wrapped up the search last weekend in Seattle for the Northwest tryout with over 200 kids in attendance. After traveling to different locations to roundup the best players to fill the WCS Sectional (Rocky Mountain, Desert, SoCal, and Northwest) and WCS National rosters, the Adrenaline team reflects back on how incredibly far the growth of western lacrosse has come. Check out this fun recap of the tour by Oregon-bred Peter Baum and SoCal-raised Geoff Worley, both Adrln Athletes and LXM Pros, as they share their experience as evaluators and coaches.

WCS Sectional and WCS National rosters will be announce mid-February!

Baum And Worley--Sleepless In Seattle

Another great weekend with Adrenaline Lacrosse is in the books!  This last weekend we were up in Seattle for the last West Coast Starz tryout of the year. We’ve been to all four of our sectional regions over the last few months, including, Utah, Arizona, SoCal and Washington or as we call them, the “Rocky Mountain, Desert, SoCal and Northwest” regions, respectively. On some occasions, these tryouts have coincided with LXM PRO weekends, which make for a fairly stressful few days for us, but this Seattle tryout weekend was only the tryouts, which meant we really had a chance to enjoy that beautiful city!

(VP of Adrenaline Events, Rory Doucette addresses players and parents after a great first day)

Each tryout was run in a similar fashion yet each differed from one another in various ways. Interestingly enough, Seattle was warm and sunny while Tucson, Arizona was freezing and dumping rain. We probably caught the best weekend weather wise that the Pacific Northwest is likely to see all winter, so naturally, we feel very fortunate.

Seattle was probably our second biggest tryout in terms of numbers, featuring players from our affiliate Rhino Lacrosse program in Oregon, teams throughout the Seattle Starz system, and talent from British Columbia, Canada. The talent across the board was pretty similar in each region although some regions seemed to be heavy on great defensemen where others were loaded with offensive threats. Seattle definitely featured some incredible defenseman at the middle school level, as well as showcasing the skills of a 2016 player we believe will be one of the best goalies to ever come out of the west.

For Peter Baum, a Portland, Oregon native (actually born in and lived in Seattle until he was 8) and former member of Rhino Lacrosse, this trip was especially exciting for him to be able to get back to his roots and help spread some lacrosse knowledge. At the end of the first session, Pete addressed the hundreds in attendance, and explained how proud he is of the giant leaps lacrosse in the Northwest has taken since he was a high school player. It was definitely a cool moment to see the Tewaaraton winner talking about his experiences with the next generation of Northwest lacrosse superstars!

Each tryout featured about 200 kids who could all play at a high level. I remember when I went to the first WCS “tryout” years ago at USC. I use the term tryout loosely because it was more of a practice session for the who’s who in western lacrosse and was looked at more as a chance for us to get to know one another. Simply put, the west coast wasn’t very deep as far as lacrosse was concerned and the teams were pretty much picked ahead of time. Don’t get me wrong, we had some incredible players back then but now there are a TON of incredible players and they’re coming from everywhere. The days where 4 or 5 kids commit to Division I programs over the course of one year are over.  In fact, just in the past year, 84 Regional Starz players have committed to play at the NCAA level, with a majority of the commitments occurring in the past five months! It's been thrilling to witness and its been a joy to continue to be a part of it.

As I mentioned before, what also made this trip a little different, at least for us, was the fact that this tryout wasn’t run in conjunction with an LXM ATS event. Generally we would go to the tryout on Friday, play Saturday night and coach a team throughout the weekend. As you can imagine, wearing the various hats of evaluator, player and coach can pack a schedule pretty quickly. While we enjoy doing all of those things, it certainly limits our ability to spend quality time in whatever new city we’re lucky enough to be in.

Each day the tryout wrapped up at 1pm leaving us the afternoon and evening to explore the city. We went down by the water to Pike Place Market, ate at great restaurants, drank some great coffee and almost comically lived life “organically and sustainably” (as Peter Baum always likes to do)—part of the deal up there. Some highlights definitely included some delicious Pacific Northwest oysters, watching the famous fish market at the Pike abuzz with flying salmon, and the absolutely stunning view of Puget Sound. It was an incredible trip that showcased not only some of the most developed lacrosse talent in the Western U.S., but also an incredibly vibrant and beautiful city that was a blast to visit.

(Puget Sound)

(This dude was about to catch a huge flying salmon--If I was a decent photographer I would have captured it in the act.)

(These little fellas were delicious. Nothing like some local oysters, eh PB15?)

(We ate some great food throughout the weekend but this Seattle Dog may have topped everything, with everything topped on it. See what I did there? Photo cred to PB15 on this one. Needless to say, he wasn't exactly scared of it.)

(Right in his element)

(The classic tourist photo. Had a blast in Seattle!)

The first ever Pacific Coast Shootout, powered by Adrenaline, will take place at LeBard Stadium at Orange Coast College Saturday, March 8th 2014. The Shootout will feature top NCAA Division I matchup between Denver and Notre Dame at 1:00 pm and MCLA showdown between UCSB and Loyola Marymount at 3:30pm.

The Pacific Coast Shootout was established in an effort to bring big time college lacrosse to the West Coast. West Coast lacrosse is booming; and each year more and more players from California are appearing on the rosters of traditional college lacrosse powerhouses. The ultimate goal of the Shootout is to promote the high quality of lacrosse being played in California and the West, while exposing these developing players and programs to the best collegiate programs in the game. In short, it’s a cross-promotional platform to help further grow and develop the game along the Pacific Coast.

West Coast lacrosse players are no strangers to the Fighting Irish or Pioneer rosters. Two-time All-American attackman and 2010 Orange County Player of the Year (Corona del Mar HS) Ryan Mix is a senior attackman for Notre Dame. Mix shares the Irish locker room with four other teammates from California, Chris Carter (Torrey Pines HS), Edwin Glazener (The Bishop’s School), Bobby Gray (St. Ignatius Prep), and Kyle Runyon (Coronado HS). Former Foothill Knights (Tustin, CA) standout Erik Adamson is a junior midfielder for Denver and was one of the Pioneer's leading scorers in 2013. Along with Adamson, there are four other players from California Tyler Ekeroth (Rancho Bernardo HS), Scott McGowan (St. Margaret’s), Mike Riis (La Costa Canyon), Tyler Simmons (Redwood), two from Washington Cole Nordstrom (Bellevue), Jack Pruitt (Skyline), and one from Oregon Michael Marcott (Lincoln).

The Pacific Coast Shootout will showcase tremendous lacrosse talent and is a great opportunity to see lacrosse played at the next level for MCLA and NCAA Division I. Tickets are for sale online now! Foss Is Boss: Get Game Ready!

The season is just around the corner for most of us.  Hopefully, you have been training hard and getting ready for your team’s spring tryouts.  For those of you that have a healthy training base, I want to give a great speed and conditioning workout that I have my players use.  This workout utilizes movement patterns that are commonly used in lacrosse – sprinting, shuffling, backpedaling, circular speed, change of direction, change of speed, and drop steps.  By doing all these movements in a circuit you will not only develop effective movement patterns but will also greatly improve your conditioning level.  To do this workout you will need a football lined field or about 10 cones.

Here it is:

1)      Sprint 10 yards (GL-10)

2)      Backpedal 5 yards, pivot to your right, sprint 10 yards (GL-15)

3)      Backpedal 5 yards, pivot to your left, sprint 10 yards (GL-15)

4)      Shuffle 10 yards (right), sprint 10 yards (GL-20)

5)      Shuffle 10 yards (left), sprint 10 yards (GL-20)

6)      Sprint 20 yards, backpedal 10 yards, sprint 20 yards (GL-15)

7)      Sprint 30 yards (GL-30)

8)      Backpedal 10 yards, shuffle 10 yards (right), sprint 10 yards (GL-10 > 10-GL > GL-10)

9)      Backpedal 10 yards, shuffle 10 yards (left), sprint 10 yards (GL-10 > 10-GL > GL-10)

10)   Sprint 30 yards changing direction at the 10 yard line (GL-10 > 10-GL > GL-10)

11)   Sprint 50 yards

12)   Diagonal ‘C’ sprint* (GL-50)

13)   Diagonal sprint w/ drop step* (GL-50)

14)   Diagonal jog/sprint* (GL-50)

15)   Sprint 150 yards changing direction at the 50 yard line (GL-50 > 50-GL > GL-50)

*On #’s 12-14 place cones on a diagonal every 10 yards for 50 yards.

Do sprint #1 and then jog back to the start.  Once you get back to the starting cone start sprint #2.  Continue doing this for all 15 exercises.  Try and shorten your time between sprints as you improve your conditioning.  If you are in excellent shape you can try walking back to the start after your last sprint (1-2 minutes) and then repeating all 15 sprints.

Good luck and let me know if you have any questions about this workout or any other training related topics.

The Rady Children’s Hospital played host to another incredible event last weekend with their 30th annual “Heart Party”. The party was created to reunite current and former heart patients with doctors, nurses and clinical staff in a fun and stress-free environment.  There were approximately 250 heart patients in attendance, many of whom have undergone open-heart surgery at the hospital.  The party included various food options, carnival style booths/games, music and other entertainment. The place was absolutely buzzing!

With the help of several Coronado Lacrosse players, we set up our Adrenaline Lacrosse version of a carnival game. We had a goal, radar gun, targets, lacrosse sticks and a TON of tennis balls. It was a blast to teach the kids about lacrosse and showing them a few techniques. We had a multitude of prizes to give out and the kids were quick to earn them by hitting targets, scoring goals and getting their shots clocked on the gun.

We had so much fun at this event last year and were thrilled to get invited back again this year for their 30th annual event. It’s extremely rewarding to know that we were able to contribute to this incredible cause and more importantly, generate a few smiles.

Our “Heart and Sole” socks were a huge hit at the party and we cannot wait to continue to get them out there!  A portion of the proceeds will go directly back to the Rady Children’s Hospital Heart Department.
